Recommendations
Iron-rich diet: Iron of animal origin—such as that present in lean meats, chicken, fish, or liver—is absorbed more easily than that from plant sources. Vegans can improve the absorption and bioavailability of iron by combining these foods with sources of vitamin C.
Combinations that reduce absorption: Tea, coffee, cocoa, and some dairy products may decrease iron absorption if consumed alongside meals rich in this mineral. It is preferable to take them at other times of the day.
Related vitamins: Anemia is not always due solely to an iron deficiency. Deficiencies of essential vitamins, such as vitamin B6 or folic acid, can also influence its onset.
Warning signs: Unusual tiredness, paleness, dizziness, or difficulty breathing may be signs of anemia. If these are present, it is important to consult a healthcare professional for an appropriate assessment.
